Most of the comments I receive are from people who seem to be suffering greatly with bipolar disorder. Some seem almost totally defeated and think I am unrealistic about leading a positive, energetic and productive life with BP, others are heartened by my energy and creativity and positive/practical forward movement. I’m no BP poster girl nor am I a snake-oil saleswoman. I’m just one person with BP who has a lot of resources and support in addition to gall, balls, gumption and the refusal to accept that I cannot have and do everything I want to.
This is not to say others who are not achieving their dreams and desires are some how slackers–I think we are all pretty much doing our best with what we’ve got and what we’ve got is a life with bipolar disorder. I’d like to collect tips and practical suggestions from y’all to help all of us out. For example, what gets you out of bed in the morning? How do you maintain structure in your life, especially when things get really stressful? Do you ever use self-soothing techniques and what are they? What are your triggers and how do you avoid or manage them, especially when you are traveling or otherwise not in your usual place or pattern? These are just some questions I have, please feel free to contribute by giving answers or asking more questions.
